Inspiration in Design

I take huge inspiration from random things I see. That’s always been my main question- where do I get my inspiration from? Who do I follow?

I’m a visual person who has an eye for aesthetically pleasing pieces, looks, anything really. I’ll scroll through Pinterest or some great design social media pages, and envy their look but I will also come to the conclusion that everyone has their thing. I may like the bright and appealing neutrals, but may not like the accent colors. I take inspiration and ideas through many outlets.

Another huge outlet I gain inspiration from is finding aesthetics or even just random pictures that have nothing to do with design and gaining creativity and ideas from that. Everyone has their own way of gaining inspiration to be creative with their space. Emphasis on their because it’s your space! You can do what you want with it, and everyone has different techniques in finding inspiration. Do what suits you and what will allow you to find the upmost inspiration to create your space!

My personal aesthetic is bright appealing neutrals. I love love love using plants and neutral accents here and there for little extras in my space. Having an all neutral space (if that’s your thing) can be so fun and original if you add your own touch on it. Another thing I love is adding pops of colors here and there to make the space stand out.

Here’s a few images that I’ve taken huge inspiration from♡

  1. I suck at interior design. My house is an embarrassing collection of hand-me-down crap that I don’t love, and random crap I bought on an impulse. I love cruising Pinterest for ideas, and I’d like to think I’m getting better. Thanks for the inspiration! Maybe I can find some fake plants that will make my rooms more lively… (Cuz you don’t have to water them if they’re fake!)

    1. Of course!! I would say to start out by finding organization that you love and that makes your space look less cluttered! and, get rid of what you don’t truly love because then you can start over and play around with themes and pieces you truly love!
      Yes, plants always help!!

  2. Sydni, I love the use of white in these pictures. I think it really opens up the rooms and makes them seem bright. I look forward to seeing what you find next!

  3. Yes, really inspiring. Do you ever watch Queer Eye? The designer on that show, Bobby (who’s kind of my favorite of the fab five), kind of does the opposite of your aesthetic: he always paints something black, or very dark. It’s become a running joke for me and my wife.

    1. I have!! I love him, I think watching and gaining ideas from people who love the complete opposite theme as you can actually really help you strengthen and mold what theme you love!!

  4. Sydni, these are beautiful! See I have a problem! I can’t ever stick to one thing. I like TOO many things and it makes it hard. I really like bright, airy photos and take inspiration from them, but I also really like a more girly/feminine interior such as Parisian or Versailles kind of style, but then I also enjoy things that you’ve posted with plants and how clean, simple and natural it looks. So my problem is just trying to find what I want because I like too many things. Did this ever happen to you? And if so how did you overcome it?

    1. This definitely happened to me. But, I don’t believe you need to have one thing to stick to! I would incorporate everything you love and see how it all fits together. You’re never limited to one theme, just make sure it’s not cluttered cause that won’t appeal to the eye- and that won’t make you satisfied with your space:)

  5. Sydni, I definitely agree with having bright neutral colors. That is the aesthetic I am liking more and those are very pleasing pictures. I think it would be fun to see some pictures of the things you have done in decorating.

  6. I like that aesthetic too. Do you have any advice for someone who cannot put white anywhere and expect it to remain that color? Also, we have a hard time keeping things on walls and no flat, horizontal surfaces are going to remain free of electronics so I try to avoid them too. It’s a long story.

    1. Try a different neutral color! If you still want things to be bright, play around with different shades and colors! I would say, find things that are great for organizing and hiding crap that you don’t want to see or be seen! Play around with pieces you enjoy. I would simply start out by finding on the ground pieces that can be multi functional and still look put together!
